The most prominent of them is dubbed UVD, for universal video decoder. The new video playback features are touted as Avivo HD. As these are DirectX 10-compliant GPUs, these mid-range parts can perform a number of new tricks not present in the X1300/1600 series, including streaming data out of the shader core, which enables the geometry shader capability required in DX10 specifications.īeyond the 3D graphics stuff, these new GPUs pack in some HD video playback capabilities that are not present in HD 2900 XT. Each of the five ALUs in this superscalar unit can execute a separate instruction, leading AMD to count them as five “stream processors.” This makes RV610 and RV630 more efficient than the outgoing Radeon X1300 and X1650 cards. AMD’s new five-wide execution unit is the basic building block of this shader engine.
The RV610 and RV630 share the R600’s unified shader architecture, which dynamically deploys on-chip computational resources to address the most pressing graphics problem at hand, whether it be for pixel shading or vertex processing and manipulation. The two new chips with we’re looking at today are based on the R600, using the same internal logic but scaled back with less internal parallelism to make them smaller and less expensive cheaper cores. We first reviewed the R600 at launch back in May as the Radeon HD 2900 XT and covered the basics of AMDs DX10 technology then. We test and review the MSI Radeon HD 7790 OC edition, also known under SKU code R7790-1GD5-OC incl FCAT Frametimes. The Gigabyte HD7790 OC 2GB clocks in at 1075 MHz on the boost engine, packed with totally silent custom cooling. We benchmark the product incl FCAT Frametimes. We test and review the Gigabyte Radeon HD 7790 2GB OC edition, also known under SKU code GV-R7790OC-2GD. But what about temperatures then you must be wondering ? That also means it's rather silent as it does not make any noise. This stock clocked Radeon HD 7850 is cooled passively, meaning it has no fans tool it down. We test and review the PowerColor Radeon HD 7850 SCS3 today. In total we'll test three cards today, the Radeon HD 2400 XT 256MB (ATI reference), the Radeon HD 2600 XT GDDR3 256MB (PowerColor) and the Radeon HD 2600 XT GDDR4 (ATI reference). We'll have an overview of the product line-up, the features, do a good number of gaming performance tests and, after the 2900 XT UVD debacle, we'll test Avivo HD with a self-developed performance test with the help of a Blu-Ray and HD-DVD title. Obviously for all products, we are talking about the next-gen product series here and that means 100% DirectX 10 compatible products, so you'll understand that we'll also talk a little about DX10, the Unified Shader Architecture with those lovely stream processors a new function on the 2000 Series called Tessellation and last but not least, Avivo HD. Let's have a brief overview of the five new graphics cards and on the next page we'll go a little deeper into the silicon that is Radeon HD 2000. These products will be based on the newer 65nm fabrication production process. ATI is also launching an all new Radeon 24 series (low- and mid-range).
But there are four other products as well. Two products armed with loads of features to attack the budget and mid-range market with prices that are really interesting.ĪMD has now launched no less than five desktop graphics cards, in the high-end range you'll see the 80nm fabrication process Radeon HD 2900 XT, a product that is still discussed a lot for sure.
